During the summer, I decided to start working on a couple of tools that I could use in the upcoming school year. I knew the Department of Education (DOE) uses Websense to filter out sites they feel are not appropriate or use up too much bandwidth. However, I never thought they would filter out sites like Wikispaces, since they devote a lot of their content to teachers and education. Well, I was wrong!

After spending hours developing my first wiki–I couldn’t use it. I had to go into school to do something and decided to see how the site would look using my computer. It was blocked. So then I had to reload the site onto Google Sites. Hopefully, whoever the powers be, does not block this or any other site that I am working on.

Lesson Learned: Do not spend hours at home working on something unless you know it will pass through the DOE’s internet filter.
